Penny Pexman

Co-Founder

Penny Pexman is a Professor of Psychology and Associate Vice-President (Research) at the University of Calgary. Her research expertise is in cognitive development, psycholinguistics, and cognitive neuroscience. She has published over 150 journal articles and book chapters on those topics. She is a Past President of the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science, and past Chair of the Governing Board for the Psychonomic Society. In 2016, Penny co-founded Women in Cognitive Science Canada, and is passionate about promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in cognitive science and related disciplines. An award-winning mentor and researcher, Pexman is an elected Fellow of both the Canadian Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.

Debra Titone

Co-Founder

McGill University

Debra Titone is a Full Professor, Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Language & Multilingualism, and Associate Vice Principal (Research) at McGill. She is also an Associate Member of the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders at McGill. Titone directs the Language & Multilingualism Lab, where she trains undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral trainees. She serves as Team Leader for the Montreal Bilingualism Initiative, an Axis leader of the Centre for Research on Language, Brain, and Music, and Editor of the Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology. Titone has been continuously funded by NSERC since 2003 and has also been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) over the years. She was awarded the Richard C. Tees Distinguished Leadership Award from the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science (CSBBCS) in 2019, and mentorship awards from Women in Cognitive Science, and the CPA Section for Women and Psychology (SWAP). Titone co-founded Women in Cognitive Science Canada in 2016 and serves as an advisory board member of the parent organization, Women in Cognitive Science.
